I am totally new to photography, other than snapping a few photos of family and friends, and the occasional flower and shrub, so I was surprised and extremely flattered when Jeeps asked me to add a few pictures to the May show. As you can well imagine when he asked me to do my own show in June I was totally freaked out and wasn’t sure if I had enough decent photos to make enough of a showing. However after digging around I found a few that I thought were acceptable enough to join the talented people that have shown their work before myself.

In January of this year, I decided to keep a photo journal over at Blogspot as I already had an underused account there and determined it would be a good place to put up some pictures. I started taking photos of odd things here and there, and have managed to add a new picture almost every day this year. At some point between January and the present time, I have started to take an extreme interest in photography, and once I started taking pictures I began to see the things around me in different ways. I started getting down on my hands and knees taking pictures at weird angles, turning the dials randomly on my camera to get different effects and virtually taking my camera with me wherever I go, much to the annoyance of my family. The people in my neighborhood do however take great joy watching me crawl around on all fours to try to find a new perspective to a shot. When I can’t get just the right shot, I have several different photo programs that I work with to crop, rotate, and generally mess with things until I am happy with the outcome.

After some encouragement from my daughter, I also began posting photos on a website over at Flickr called Beyond Robson, which did feature one of my photos a couple of months ago, much to my amazement. The photographers on this site are all from the Vancouver area and all of the shots feature things in and around the city. I’ve had great fun being on the lookout for different scenes shoot and have ended up in the strangest of places. It is joyful checking out some really great photographers’ works and learning how they see things. I have learnt so much just from looking at what other people do and have seen an improvement in my photos from last year to this.

I still have a great deal to learn and am still a neophyte when it come to snapping, but it has given me hours of great pleasure and joy and I am sure there will be many more to come. I hope you all enjoy my photos and any comments and constructive input are greatly appreciated. Thanks to Jeeps for giving me this opportunity!

I am always unsure how to get in there and snap an interesting face, but I did manage to catch these three without getting too much up in their grills.

And speaking of grills, I am somewhat like a crow I think. I go for the shiny chrome. I can't help but be drawn to old cars and motorcycles that have lots of shine.

This was taken one warm summer evening down in the west end.

Black and white photos are always interesting to me with their different shades of black and grey.

Much to my children's dismay I love taking pictures of flowers. I haven't yet mastered the macro lens, but I am working on it.

Hey you there! In the white shirt! Pull harder on that rope!

Getting up close and personal with my family and friends gets a good photo, but I can tell you they don’t like it all that much.

This is a short slide show with a few of my favorite places in Vancouver.

And finally, a beautiful sunset in English Bay. This was Caryn’s last night in Vancouver when she visited last summer. She looks rather wistful don’t you think?

Thank you again Jeeps for giving me the opportunity to share my photos and thanks to everyone who drops by and takes a look.
